Blue Horizon

Ada Johnsson

The sea is far more than just a backdrop.
In Blue Horizon, Ada Johnsson gives voice to the people of Alonissos—fishermen, tourism operators, environmentalists, and local residents—whose daily lives unfold in close connection with the sea. Through intimate and sincere testimonies, the film explores the ocean as identity, sustenance, heritage, and responsibility. At its core, Blue Horizon is about the everyday relationship between people and the marine environment on an island that hosts one of the Mediterranean’s most important Marine Protected Areas.
The project is grounded in Ocean Literacy Principle #6: the ocean and humans are inextricably interconnected. With a gentle, attentive lens, the documentary becomes an act of listening—returning to the sea its most authentic voices.
