Pinna opens their house for us tonight

Ioulia Marouda

Pinna opens their house for us tonight is a visual and sonic ode to Pinna Nobilis, a majestic bivalve native to the seafloor of Alonissos, now critically endangered. Once a silent architect of marine biodiversity, its iridescent shell offered refuge to a host of micro-organisms. Combining scans of actual Pinna remains found underwater, hydrophone recordings, and generative animation, the artist imagines the shell once again filled with light, sound, and presence. Inspired by scientific research suggesting that the sounds of healthy reefs can attract marine life, this speculative VR journey invites us to symbolically reinhabit marine space. It is both ecological and poetic; an invitation to listen differently, to imagine restoration through resonance, and to rethink how we relate to the ocean’s memory and fragility.
