Calypso

THEIC

Calypso is a visual journey through time, myth, and environmental urgency. Inspired by the legend of Calypso and the island of Gozo, the mural portrays a world divided in two: a serene past and a climatealtered future. On the left, cool tones evoke a time when nature and sea coexisted in harmony — Calypso gazes toward the horizon as Odysseus sails away, embodying the timeless connection between humanity and the ocean. On the right, the colors shift to saturated reds and ochres, expressing heat, drought, and rising seas. Calypso, once guardian of beauty, becomes witness to loss and change. Through symbolic contrast and narrative composition, the mural reflects on the ocean’s role not only as myth and memory, but as a powerful climate actor — one that influences weather, shapes landscapes, and now demands our attention. Inspired by Ocean Literacy Principle #3, the work invites viewers to rethink their relationship with the ocean, through a language where myth meets science — and feeling becomes awareness.
