Ustica VR

Simon Duflo

What does a breath sound like when it disappears? Ustica VR is a silent, immersive journey into the depths of the sea — filmed entirely while freediving in the protected waters of Ustica. Through a 360° perspective, viewers become divers themselves, immersed in a world of suspended breath, liquid light, and intimate proximity with the underwater ecosystem. This is not just a visual experience, but a sensory and meditative one. The freediver’s voice guides us with reflections on the joy of being one with the ocean — and her growing concern for its future. From moments of connection and wonder to subtle signs of decline, the film reveals a tension between harmony and fragility. A coral reef with fewer fish. The warmth of the water that shouldn’t be there. At its core, Ustica VR is a poetic act of listening — inviting us to slow down, to breathe less and feel more. It reminds us that to care for the sea, we must first return to our vulnerability, and realize that our breath and the ocean’s rhythm are one and the same.
